General Science: apply the basics
The 2025 Group IV official syllabus, General Studies Unit I, allocates five questions to science within Part B; another recruitment may use a different weighting. The listed range covers motion, energy, electricity, light, acids and bases, physiology, nutrition and environmental science. This is a syllabus map, not a forecast of exact questions. Identify the standard of your own paper before choosing textbooks.
Work an example rather than just naming a topic: a circuit needs a closed conducting path for current to flow, so an open switch stops current even if the battery is charged. For biology, an alveolus has a thin wall to support gas exchange between air and capillaries; the function is not the same as that of the tracheas cartilage, which helps keep the airway open. For chemistry, an acidic solution has pH below seven under ordinary classroom conditions, while a neutral aqueous solution is near seven. Practise explaining the observation and the mechanism, not just identifying a keyword.
Make three revision columns: concept, everyday example and common misconception. Consult the relevant Tamil Nadu school textbook chapter, answer a previous-paper question, and record why each distractor is wrong. Current discoveries should be checked against reliable dated reporting; a 2025 example is not a permanent fact.
