TNPSC Group II and IIA Posts: Read the Current Notification

Group II and Group IIA are two post lists under the Combined Civil Services Examination-II. Do not rely on an old division into interview and non-interview posts: the TNPSC Notification 11/2025 dated 15 July 2025 specifies a common preliminary examination followed by separate Group II and Group IIA main examinations. Its selection plan states that Paper II marks in the relevant main examination determine ranking. It does not specify an oral interview as a common selection stage for these 2025 lists. Earlier notifications, including 2022, used a different interview-post structure; check the current recruitment notice before planning for an interview.

Examples from the 2025 Group II post list

Section 3.1 of Notification 11/2025 lists Assistant Inspector (Labour), Junior Employment Officer, Probation Officer, Sub Registrar Grade-II, Special Branch Assistant, Assistant Section Officer and Forester. The listed vacancies and departments are notification-specific, and Forester has an additional physical standards and endurance test. A candidate may be eligible for one post but not another because post-specific qualifications or physical requirements differ.

Examples from the 2025 Group IIA post list

Section 3.2 lists Senior Inspector (Dairy Milk Production and Dairy Development), Assistant Inspector (Local Fund Audit), Audit Inspector, Supervisor / Junior Superintendent, Assistant Grade III, Senior Revenue Inspector and Assistants in several departments. An Assistant in one department is not automatically interchangeable with a similarly named post elsewhere; match the post code, eligibility and preferences in the table.

How to use the lists when applying

1. Download the current TNPSC examination notification, not just its calendar. Locate the two separate post tables and any addenda.
2. Write down each relevant post code, department, location restrictions and pay level. Do not copy vacancy totals from a previous year.
3. Check educational qualifications and any technical or physical criteria for each post, even if you qualify for the shared preliminary test.
4. Read the selection-plan section for that exam year. The 2025 notice has a common preliminary screening stage and separate main examinations, while special posts such as Forester have an extra test.
5. Set your preferences according to the current application instructions and keep a copy of the submitted form for certificate verification.
